Welcome to Miss Jordan's Tutoring Site

Meeting your literacy needs, one word at a time.

Thank you for visiting! My name is Jordan Taylor. I am a graduate of Lipscomb University where I studied English, History, and Education. I am a lifelong lover of learning, education, and books-- I was the kid that was curious about everything (still am!) and never wanted to leave school (still don't!). I am eventually planning to earn a Masters degree in Library Science in the hopes of becoming a young adult/children's librarian.

I decided after graduating from college to pursue non-classroom teaching opportunities; I taught reading at a nonprofit in West Nashville for a year before moving back to my hometown, Mount Juliet. When I'm not tutoring, you will find me spending time with my mom and 2 dogs, reading novels, cooking and baking, shopping, daydreaming about everywhere I want to travel, and watching Friends on Netflix or Full House on Hulu.

About Me:

How it all started:

I began tutoring in early 2018 after a friend asked if I'd be interested in working one-on-one with a couple of her students at Lyttle Fox Therapy. I quickly realized the things that I loved about teaching multiplied when tutoring students individually. Seeing the lightbulb moment when something "clicks," creating and implementing fun hands-on learning experiences, and getting to know and love students is what I love most about being an educator-- and being able to do that with students independently in a quiet, more individualized has helped me fall back in love with the craft of teaching.

What started out as a side hustle with 2 clients has blossomed into a full-time job! I work with kids of all ages (though upper elementary/middle schoolers are my jam), and primarily tutor all things literacy-- phonics, reading comprehension, writing skills. If you have a child needed extra help with their education, I would love to partner with you to help your child learn to the best of their ability!

My Tutoring Services

What I Provide

I am dedicated to helping your child meet their goals and learn in an encouraging, helpful, and kind environment. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to what a student needs or how they learn, therefore I aim to help each child learn in ways that suit them, their needs, and their fun personalities.

My goal as a tutor is to help students discover the best ways to become better readers, writers, and learners, and for students to grow confident in their own abilities!

Writing Tutoring

I've been writing since I was 8 years old-- and it is still one of my favorite pastimes. While it's not everyone's favorite hobby, being able to write thoughtfully with proper spelling and grammar is an essential skill that goes hand-in-hand with reading skills. From spelling, grammar, and basic sentence structure, to essay and story-writing-- we can work through it all, one word at a time.

Reading Tutoring

We read something every day: whether it's a novel or directions for playing a game, an email or the latest internet meme, reading is a foundational skill that every child needs to live a successful life. Whether working on the building blocks of reading, to increasing fluency and stamina skills, I want to help your child learn to read words well and understand what they're reading.

Additional Tutoring

While literacy is my primary focus and skill set, I have also helped students with test preparation/test anxiety, learning habits, social studies, and basic math skills. Whether there's a specific skill your child needs help with, or you simply bring work from school your child needs extra help with, I will work with you to help meet learning goals your child is working towards.
